FA 400 AC/ FILM 480 AP - Media and Performance
This course situates and analyzes interactive media and performance within historical, socio-cultural, and political contexts, while also interrogating the anxieties often associated with media-related technologies. Interactive media and performance-based cultures explored in this course are: DJ cultures, Web 2.0, radio/audio art, performance art, video games, animé, digital cultures, film and television. Pedagogically, this course is situated within a critical framework, addressing the complex signifiers (and intersections) of race, ethnicity, sex, gender, sexuality, and class, as they relate to interactive media and performance, and as part of an ongoing integrative framework. All students are required to participate in workshops, and attend concert/ exhibitions and field trips.
